Go back to your roots… Literally.

Modern society has created the perfect recipe to destroy mankind. Beyond meat over steak. Social media over tribes. TV over books. Blue light over sun. Sitting on your ass over hunting. Most of our problems can be explained by these evolutionary mismatches.

Today, we have so much noise in our environments that our elementary, primal sensing systems have been completely overwritten by the noise. That’s why most people constantly feel anxious and uneasy. They don’t even know what it is, but they’re so used to it that they accept it as the norm. We’ve created an artificial environment that we’re living in and we’ve energized it with unnatural noise. 

One way to return back to normal is through a technique called grounding. In fact, in electric circuitry terms, the word ground literally means to return to normal.

What is grounding? 

Grounding is simply to make contact with Earth. It is literally putting your bare feet on the ground. Getting in the dirt. Touching life. Connecting with nature. Getting sunlight. Getting fresh air. Finding your place and bidding yourself back in. 

Humans have been disconnected from the earth and we’ve lost our natural ground. When the body is grounded, when it’s at earth potential, it’s negative. Mother Earth is endowed with electrons, which are absorbed through your feet. Evidence suggests that the Earth’s negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. Moreover, oscillations of the intensity of the Earth’s potential may be important for setting the biological clocks regulating diurnal body rhythms, such as cortisol secretion. The possibility of modern disconnection with the Earth’s surface as a cause of growing numbers in chronic disease has not been considered. Some studies show how grounding can bring down your inflammatory markers. When you ground, it alleviates inflammation by thinning your blood and infusing you with negatively charged ions from the Earth.

Grounding is extremely simple to do. It’s as simple as walking barefoot on a patch of grass or dirt, or walking barefoot on the beach, or even hugging a tree. 

Naturally reconnecting with the Earth is very simple. Next time you’re outside ground yourself by allowing the bottoms of your feet, palms of your hands, or entire body to touch the earth. Do this for 15-30 minutes every day. If you haven’t ever done this, you may be surprised at some of the immediate effects you’ll feel from grounding.
